HOW WE SERVE

The Congregational Church of Hollis serves others by providing:

  • Community Support through donations to over 20 organizations in the wider community including food pantries and shelters. The church assists local families in need by providing funds for food to school nurses to distribute to students, grocery store gift cards, fuel assistance, holiday meals at Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter, and Christmas gifts.

  • Community Outreach by members of our congregation who gift their time and talent to a wide variety of organizations.  From preparing meals for the Ash Street Shelter, holding blood drives for the American Red Cross, volunteering at the Nashua Soup Kitchen or on a local Habitat for Humanity build, and delivering food boxes to over 40 local families, we make a significant positive impact in the Greater Nashua area.

  • Community Gathering Space for organizations such as the Scouts, musical ensembles and support groups.  Community life moves through the church as marriages, funerals and town festivals take place in the meeting house, classrooms, function room and outdoor space.

BUILDING COMMUNITY

While we have been blessed, our facility needs to be renovated. The renovation will allow us to grow our community of service by meeting code compliance, addressing wear and tear and re-imagining existing spaces for improved flexibility and new uses. The result will allow us to serve more by:

  • Upgrading and re-imagining existing spaces like the kitchen, meeting rooms and function room to better support church outreach efforts and community events.
  • Adding new spaces including a youth room and a patio honoring Jim and Jan Squires that will be a vibrant new venue for the wider community (click HERE for more information about Jim & Jan Squires and the patio in their honor).
  • Improving handicap accessibility.

WHERE CHURCH MEETS TOWN

The Jim and Jan Squires Community Patio will be a vibrant venue for community activities. This gathering space will be prominently located on the east side of the church at the corner of Monument Square and Broad Street. As a tribute to the Squires’ commitment to community, the patio will be a place where neighbors can meet neighbors and where townspeople can welcome out-of-towners.

ABOUT JIM & JAN SQUIRES

Jim and Jan Squires settled in Hollis in 1971 and have been active members of the community ever since. They raised four children in the local public schools and attend the Congregational Church of Hollis. As firm believers in public service, they both served our community, many local organizations, and the State of New Hampshire in numerous capacities.

The patio naming opportunity has been valued at $250,000 due to its highly visible location as the centerpiece of the church renovation. In line with their belief of giving back to the community, a value which Jan and Jim instilled in their children, the Squires family has generously gifted over half the cost for the patio hoping to inspire others to invest in our community by donating generously in Jan and Jim’s honor.
