Communion Platter on Display in Emerson Chapel

    This platter was used when Rev. Daniel Emerson was ordained on April 20, 1743.  The platter was later rurturned to the church on April 8, 1970 by Mrs. Lulu Bancroft of Pepprell, Massachusetts.  Mrs. Bancroft's geneology records read that her background is traced to Jonathan Lovejoy who was born in Andover, Massachusetts in 1719 and came to Hollis the day Reverend Emerson, the first Pastor, was ordained.

    Sarah Lovejoy, a fourth generation of the Lovejoy family, left the platter to her daughter, Sarah Elizabeth, who was born in 1847 and married John Smith.  Sarah Elizabeth was the mother of Lulu Grace Smith Bancroft.  The gift was given during an all day meeting of the Ladies and Reading and Charitable Society.
