Eli Smith

"[Rev. Smith] was a man of strong natural talents, a firm and energetic defender of the truth and a successful pastor.  During his pastorate of little more than 37 years, between four and five hundred persons were admitted to the church."-Rev. Dr. Day

Born in Belchertown, MA, Rev. Smith as a graduate from Brown University started as a colleague Pastor to Rev. Emerson in November of 1793.  Mr. Smith, like his predecessor, Mr. Emerson, was an active and zealous supporter of the public schools.  He served as an elected school official from 1806 to 1830.
